After returning to New Zealand in 2001 C.T.S. Managing Director Janita Wright spent several years in sales & marketing roles; taking a career break to nurse her terminally ill brother before setting up marketing business ABb Group. Specialising in servicing the finance sector ABb Group operated offices both in Auckland & Sydney with Janita commuting between the two.
Whilst in Sydney, Janita happened upon a brand of tanning lotions which she felt would fit well within the NZ market; “With the finance sector especially in Australia being highly regulated and creatively restrictive, the opportunity to work on something creatively unrestrictive could provide a desperately needed "yin – yang" relief for the team & put all of our skills to full use. Unfortunately our planned distribution network fell through, so we effectively found ourselves needing to create one.”
Janita held a strong belief that the strategic alignment of sunless tanning to the beauty sector was necessary to ensure control of quality & service within New Zealand. “Anyone can set up and operate a sunless tanning business, however we have grave concerns that some entering this industry do not possess basic or fundamental knowledge of hygiene, skin health & customer respect or service; if a client is exposed to someone without the basic skill set there is potential for serious mistreatment, which could have a detrimental & lasting effect on this industry. We wanted to create a distribution network which would facilitate this alignment.” Thus in 2006 Combined Tanning Supplies was born.
Since November 2007 Janita has dedicated her full time focus on growing Combined Tanning Supplies, working alongside management staff to emerge as a leading provider to the beauty Sector. “The collapse of the specialist finance sector due to the recession meant I found myself very much out of pocket, unemployed & essentially unemployable. Prior to this C.T.S. had very much been structured to operate independently, however my marketing skills & work ethic positioned me as the ideal candidate to guide C.T.S. through the recession.” Working with the simple ethos: “We are not Beauty Therapists, we are business people who specialize in the procurement of product & its distribution, we pride ourselves on servicing our customer network and meeting their needs; if our customers need something we will find it, and when they order it we will do everything in our power to ensure the receive it promptly.”
Combined Tanning Supplies now offers an extensive range of consumable supplies, “When we are asked for a product which we do not have, our first step is always to research the needs of which that product must meet and any shortfalls or limitations that could impair that products function. This way we know we are only providing products which suit the purpose of use; and we know that the products we have will meet the needs of our customers. We don’t add products to our range unless we are asked to, which gives us the benefit of only stocking products which we know are actually required – our “organically” grown range means we have products to meet a demand, as opposed to creating a demand for the products.”
With 80% of its customer network beauty salons & spa’s, Combined Tanning Supplies soon evolved into C.T.S. Cosmetologists “We do so much more than tanning supplies now, the product range has evolved from 8 to 1,500+ within just 4 years”. We now work with Hospitals, Schools, Hotels, Airlines, Restaurants, Engineering Firms, Dairy Giants & more. We distribute product to customers throughout the world, from Tokyo to Rome, Iceland to Africa.
With a strong focus on providing cost effective solutions, C.T.S. Cosmetologists enjoy tremendous support from its rapidly growing customer network, operating as a “great” distributor provides the basis of a two way relationship, we work for & with our customers & in turn we get tremendous support, numerous referrals & “great” customers.
C.T.S. employs a staff of internationally qualified beauty therapists to assist in the procurement & production of industry specific product & offer modern technique training.
